Review

Goldy Bear of Goldilocks Catering is pulling double duty as the story opens -- as the bride and the caterer of her own wedding. All that's missing is the groom -- literally. When the officiating priest is murdered in his own home and groom-to-be Tom Schulz disappears mid-investigation, the wedding is put on hold and parishioners at Goldy's church begin to wonder if the flowers should be reserved for the priest's funeral...and perhaps Tom's.
Not one to let something like a missing groom stand in the way of her future happiness, Goldy sets off on her own to find Tom and the killer, leaving little time for baking. What she does find instead is steamier than any stew: clandestine clerical romances, seminarians at odds with the church, and a spate of local healing miracles, all of which may or may not be related to the murder and helpful to Goldy, who needs a miracle to find Tom.
Though I caught on to this series a bit late, I enjoyed the read. Goldy Bear is the sort of herione one can support and admire; her faith and determination in finding her love when others gave up hope made for an inspiring attitude in this mystery. The recipes included within the pages are a bonus as well. I'll have to wait until after Lent to try my hand at those sticky buns.
