Take Me Home for Christmas - Brenda Novak
I am reading the Whiskey Creek books somewhat out of order, but I have read enough that I did not get lost while enjoying Brenda Novak's latest. Whether this is your first WC story or not, you'll find it's okay if you come into the series late. The community Novak builds here is fluid and full of many tight-knit, well-rounded characters. Christmas centers on a couple, Ted and Sophia, who suffered a rough past and must muddle through a tense present to find their happiness.

Christmas is engaging drama that takes some risks. Though a romance, some actions made by the hero may not sit well with readers, particular since the hearts of other characters are involved. A supporting player burned by Sophia's late husband proves a bit too grating at times, too, but I found Novak's style appealing all the same.

Sophia is recently widowed and has lost nearly everything due to her husband's greed. Ted, spurned by Sophia in the past, offers help to get her back on her feet - though it's not his initial idea. His willingness to work past their problems adds to his charm, gruff as he seems in part, and Sophia's turnaround from high school mean girl is genuine. A good addition to the Whiskey Creek series.
