Review

The fourth book in the Bell River series surprised me. If you've read the first three, each of which focuses on one of the Wright sisters, you'll have read the story of mysterious Bonnie and Dallas's brother, Mitch. With Bonnie on the run and Mitch back in Colorado and missing her, you'd think the next book would resolve this open storyline. Apparently, there's another Bell River book in the works, so it looks like we're waiting.
Not to hold that against the author. :) Secrets brings us Tess Spencer, a new wrench in the saga when we learn she is the half-sister of the Wrights, one they don't know exists. Tess takes a job at the ranch's new spa to get a lay of the land and learn more about her father's family. She's come from a broken marriage and doesn't expect much of her part-time job, which escalates into an administrative position, and insta-smitten with handyman Jude.
The title implies a darker tone as opposed to the previous books, and Secrets does offer more intrigue. It's good to catch up with familiar characters and uncover more of the town's attitude toward the Wrights. Some events that seems a bit far-fetched at first (e.g. one resident's nasty attitude toward the family) come to make sense in time, and the romance of Tess and Jude is real and well developed with romantic tension.
